Flip Cameras

New digital video cameras, such as the Flip, are incredibly useful with the quick USB-to-computer feature that enables you to shoot your footage and put it on your computer, make a quick edit with the camera’s built-in software and then upload it on YouTube or other sites within minutes.

We’re seeing more activists and citizen journalists using these to capture events and conduct quick interviews to support their advocacy work. Additionally, the makers of the Flip have the Spotlight project, which is for U.S. registered nonprofits so you can get two cameras for the price of one.

Because the cameras do not allow for plug-in mics, getting good sound is the biggest disadvantage. However, you can do a lot with them and they’re a relatively affordable option for many.
